Organized by the Asia-Pacific Association for Problem-Based Learning in Health Sciences (APA-PHS) and the Cebu Institute of Medicine

About the Theme:
This theme appropriately reflects on the roots of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and relates them to the current and future healthcare education landscape, which is filled with innovation and technology. Despite expected and unexpected changes, PBL remains strong and relevant when properly cultivated and innovated, bridging gaps and meeting the needs of the meta learner ready to take on the world with wisdom and good health!
Who is the PBL meta learner we are referring to?
“Meta” (from Ancient Greek μετά) is a prefix that originally referred to succession; that is, “after,” “beyond,” or “with/among”. Fast-forward to modern times: in AI, meta-learning is a subfield of machine learning that trains AI models to understand and adapt to new tasks on their own. And finally, in metacognition, meta-learning is the process of learning how to learn. Taken together, these three definitions describe the human PBL meta learner we refer to: you and me! Whether a student or a teacher, we envision this conference as an opportunity to come together to share insights and experiences, and to better understand how to optimize our PBL knowledge and skills in our education, training, and work, while intersecting with the innovation and technology of modern times.
